The Evangelism and Practical Ministry Department of the Indian Theological Seminary is committed to shaping students into faithful, competent, and compassionate ministers of the Gospel. Through structured field engagement and hands-on ministry exposure, students are trained to integrate theological learning with real-life mission and service.
As part of their ministerial formation, students are placed in stay ministries, non-stay ministries, and church planting contexts, enabling them to experience diverse models of ministry. These placements help students develop pastoral sensitivity, evangelistic skills, leadership qualities, and a deeper understanding of community life. Weekend ministry forms an integral component of this training, allowing students to serve in churches, mission fields, and urban and rural communities.
Community and Evangelistic Engagement
Students actively participate in various outreach and evangelistic initiatives that nurture a servant-hearted approach to ministry:
Community Cleaning and Social Awareness Ministry:
In collaboration with local authorities, students engage in cleaning public spaces and promoting social responsibility. This ministry instils discipline, teamwork, and a public witness of Christian service, while strengthening relationships with local communities.
Childrenβs Ministry:
Students are involved in mentoring and teaching children in nearby communities, offering biblical instruction, care, and moral guidance. This exposure equips students to serve effectively in childrenβs and family ministries in their future pastoral and mission work.
Multi-Lingual Gospel Tract Ministry:
Recognizing Indiaβs linguistic diversity, students write and distribute Gospel tracts in multiple languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Manipuri, and English. This ministry trains students to communicate the Gospel clearly and contextually across cultures and language groups.
Compassion Ministry to the Homeless:
Through regular outreach to homeless communities in Chennai, students distribute food and extend care and dignity to the marginalized. This ministry nurtures compassion, humility, and a Christ-like concern for the poor and vulnerable.
Through these evangelistic and practical engagements, students are molded spiritually, emotionally, and ministerially. Seminary emphasizes contextual evangelism, servant leadership, and integral mission, preparing students to respond effectively to the challenges of contemporary ministry. By combining classroom learning with intentional field experience, the Seminary forms graduates who are equipped to preach Christ, plant churches, and serve communities with integrity and commitment.
